I worked at ACTU for 1 year on a fixed term contract to deliver the UX for two funded projects. I also helped with BAU in this time but OHShelp was where my effort was focussed.
OHShelp (2021-2022)

OHShelp is an app for union organisers and Health & Safety Reps (HSRs) to use on workplace visits. It provides quick access to safety guides, educational resources, and tools to log hazards and track issues.
I worked on OHShelp for a year at the ACTU, leading UX research and design from discovery through to the first release (MVP).
User Interviews
I ran interviews with organisers and HSRs to test two hypotheses: that reps lacked easy access to OHS information, and that connecting with their union was too difficult. By asking open questions, we uncovered not just processes but also attitudes toward OHS and their union, giving us a clearer picture of where support was most needed.

Synthesising results
Interview notes and verbatims were grouped into themes, then refined into patterns. This process confirmed some assumptions, challenged others, and highlighted where OHShelp could best fit into existing behaviours while addressing gaps.
Summary of findings
The research was distilled into a shareable pack, covering participant details, key themes, and potential solutions. It was designed both to guide design decisions and to make insights accessible across the ACTU.

Testing wireframes and prototypes
We tested wireframes and early prototypes through task-based flows (like searching for hazards) and free exploration. This helped prioritise content, refine navigation, validate our solution, and test language that resonated with users.
First release (MVP)
The MVP delivered core features: searching for OHS issues, logging and tracking hazards, and following step-by-step guides. These gave HSRs and organisers immediate value in the workplace and laid the foundation for future improvements.
